U.S. Supreme Court Justice Scalia to speak at CU-Boulder on Oct. 1

U.S. Supreme Court Senior Associate Justice Antonin Scalia will deliver the fourth annual John Paul Stevens Lecture hosted by the Byron R. White Center and the 乐播传媒 Law School on Wednesday, Oct. 1. The event will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Macky Auditorium on the CU-Boulder campus. A limited number of seats are available to the lecture for the general public at no cost. CU law alumnus pledges $1.5 million to support distinctive faculty position

Steve Hillard ('76) knew he wasn't done giving back to the 乐播传媒 Law School. He had donated generously to the capital campaign for the Wolf Law Building, but he had bigger plans. "I had a still-unfulfilled obligation to Colorado Law," said Hillard. "I am humbled by the fact that I have had some success in my career, and I definitely believe in giving back."

Record $10 million Colorado Law commitment will establish two faculty chairs

Byron Chrisman (鈥66), perhaps one of the 乐播传媒 Boulder Law School鈥檚 most unlikely success stories, attributes his success as a tax attorney and real estate developer to his experience at Colorado Law. Now he and his wife, Carlene, have committed a $10 million bequest to endow the Byron and Carlene Chrisman Chairs in Free Enterprise at Colorado Law. When realized upon their passing, this estate gift will be the largest cash gift in the history of Colorado Law.

New report summarizes climate considerations on Navajo Nation lands

A new report led by the 乐播传媒 Boulder, 鈥淐onsiderations for Climate Change and Variability Adaptation on the Navajo Nation,鈥 synthesizes state-of-the-science information on the region鈥檚 climate, water cycle and ecology. And it goes much further, discussing social, legal, economic, infrastructural and other factors that affect people鈥檚 vulnerabilities to climate impacts as well as their adaptive capacity, and outlining one approach for how the region鈥檚 residents might plan for ongoing environmental change.

Banks named Executive Director of the Getches-Wilkinson Center

The 乐播传媒 Law School announced that Britt Banks has been appointed as Executive Director of the Getches-Wilkinson Center for Natural Resources, Energy and the Environment. For over 20 years, Banks has been a leader in the international natural resources sector, as a senior corporate executive, attorney, consultant, researcher and teacher, having most recently taught at Tokyo鈥檚 Waseda University. He has previously taught at Colorado Law, where he graduated in 1988, and currently serves on the Center鈥檚 Advisory Council.

New online database charts water quality regulations related to oil and gas development

A searchable, comparative law database outlining water quality regulations for Colorado and other states experiencing shale oil and gas development is now available on LawAtlas.org. The Oil & Gas - Water Quality database project is led by the 乐播传媒 Boulder鈥檚 Intermountain Oil and Gas Best Management Practices (BMP) Project in partnership with Temple University鈥檚 Public Health Law Research program and its LawAtlas.org website.

CU-Boulder students invest $30,000 in startup through real-life venture capital program

Elihuu, a startup company whose slogan is 鈥渕eet your manufacturer,鈥 has met an investor -- a group of 乐播传媒 Boulder graduate students. The students last week put $30,000 into Elihuu, an online software platform that connects product designers with manufacturers who can make their wares. The students turned venture capitalists direct CU-Boulder鈥檚 Deming Center Venture Fund (DCVF), which was launched by a donor in 1997 and is a program of the Leeds School of Business.
