The ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder College of Music has awarded the recipients of two endowed chairs, the first two such chairs in the college's history.

CU-Boulder School of Law Professor Barbara Bintliff will receive the Clifford Calhoun Public Service Award on April 26 in recognition of her contributions to the law school and the legal community. The award was established by an anonymous donor in 1998 in honor of CU-Boulder emeritus law Professor Clifford Calhoun, who retired in May of that year. The award is given to those who exemplify the spirit and tradition of Calhoun's altruistic career.

CU-Boulder students have selected four faculty members to receive the 2002 Teacher Recognition Awards, organized and administered by undergraduate student members of the CU-Boulder Alumni Association, on May 7. The four will be honored at the 72nd Annual Alumni Association Awards Ceremony at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, in the Old Main Chapel on the Boulder campus.

The CU-Boulder Alumni Association will recognize 12 outstanding members of the CU community - faculty, staff, alumni community members and legislators -- at its 72nd Annual Alumni Awards ceremony May 7. The free event is open to the public and is set for 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 7, in the Old Main Chapel on the Boulder campus. ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder music Professor Janet Montgomery will begin a two-year term as president of the Colorado Music Educators Association on May 1. Professor Montgomery, who teaches music education in the College of Muisc, has already served two years as president-elect.

Campus police at the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder have some constructive reminders for students as spring unfolds and parties flourish in student neighborhoods: students and non-students alike can be criminally charged if they don't comply with police orders to disperse from riot or crowd situations.

A collapsible skateboard that fits inside a backpack, a customized wheelchair for a child with cerebral palsy, and an assortment of electromechanical robots will be among the more than 70 student-built engineering projects featured at the Integrated Teaching and Learning Laboratory's Spring Design Expo on Saturday, April 27. The Design Expo is a popular, educational event for families and an opportunity for K-12 students to learn about engineering in a university setting. It also is the highlight of the semester for more than 300 undergraduates.

Nine ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder students will be honored at an April 29 banquet for the winners of the third annual Western American Writing Awards presented by the university's Center of the American West. Gerald Ronning, Reynaldo Reyes III, Chesney Kathryn Dougherty, Brett J. Marraccini and Carolyn Hilton will each receive $350 first prize awards. Noel Bauer, Alanna Van Antwerp, and the duo of Catherine Malek and Matthew Hoke will get honorable mention awards of $25.

ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder Leeds School of Business Dean Steven Manaster has appointed five new members to the school's Business Advisory Council. The new members are Jimmy Calano, Nora Feeley, Paul Jerde, Jerry McMorris and Clay Timon. These accomplished executives from a variety of professional backgrounds will bring a wealth of experience as they advise the school's administration, Manaster said.

Middle school and high school students from around the world will meet at the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder April 24 to April 28 for simulation tests of experiments that will ride on NASA's space shuttle Columbia July 19. The seven-person Columbia flight crew will include CU-Boulder aerospace engineering graduate Kalpana Chawla, who is making her second space shuttle flight. Chawla, who received her doctorate in 1988 from CU-Boulder and flew on Columbia in 1997, will help operate the student experiments in orbit.
