2023Children's Book Festival

5th Annual Children's Book Festival | Oct. 25-27, 2023

The CU BoulderSchool of Education and the Boulder Bookstore invite teachers, students, families, librarians, and all who enjoy children’s literature to join us for the following free events!

Highlights include:

  • Free in-person event on Wednesday, October 25 from 5:30–7:30 p.m.: Censorship Unbound: A Panel on Book Bans and the Right to Read in K-8 Schools and Libraries.The panel will include a local teacher and parent, a librarian, and children's book authors to discuss the current climate on book challenges. Opportunity to purchase the festival authors’ books, signing, and a reception will follow the panel.This panel event is part ofCU Boulder Center for Humanities and the Arts'2023 – 2024 academic year programming theme ‘Liberty, Freedom, Democracy: The Fight for Ideas’.
    • Canyon Theater & Gallery - Boulder Public Library (Main Library)
    • Panel 5:30–6:30 p.m.
    • Reception 6:30–7:30 p.m.
  • Free virtual event on Friday, October 27 from 10:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m. MT: Children’s Book Author Panels​ with audience Q&A.Two author panels catered to different grade levels with audience Q&A. Thefive authorswill share their new books and talk about their creative process and influences.
    • Picture Book Author Panel, 10:30-11:30 a.m.
    • Chapter Book Author Panel, 12:00-1:00 p.m.

Additional Highlights:

  • Open education resources created by School of Education students available for free download (e.g., resources from past festivals include author slide shows, book discussion guides, digital book trailers and class projects)
  • On Thursday, October 26, authors and illustrators will visit several Colorado elementary schools for an author visit (by invitation)

2022 Children's Book Festival

4th Annual Children's Book Festival | Nov. 3-4, 2022

CU Boulder's School of Education and the Boulder Bookstore invite teachers, students, families, librarians and all who enjoy children’s literature to join us for a free virtual author and illustrator panel on Nov. 4, 2022. The sixauthors and illustrator will share their new books and talk about their creative process and influences.

Highlights include:

  • Free virtual event on Nov. 4 with two author panel discussion sessions catered to different grade levels with audience Q&A
    • Picture Book Author and Illustrator Panel, 9:30-10:30 a.m.
    • Chapter Book Author Panel, 11:00-12:00 p.m.
  • One free book to Colorado participants, while supplies last! Books will be available to pick up at the Boulder Book Store.
  • Open education author and book resourcescreated by School of Education students available for free download (e.g., resources from past festivals include author slide shows, book discussion guides, digital book trailers and class projects).
  • On November 3, authors and illustrators will visitseveral Colorado schools who have partnered with us to engage their students in book projects and host an author visit.

2021 Children's Book Festival

The CU Boulder School of Education and Boulder Bookstore invites teachers, students, families, librarians and all who love children’s books to join our free Children’s Book Festival on Nov. 12. This virtual event features an author panel with award-winning authors and illustrators, as well as author and book resources developed by CU Boulder students.

This year's Children's Book Festival will feature a morning session (9 a.m.to 10:15 a.m.) and afternoon session (1:00 p.m. to 2:15 p.m.). You can sign up for your preferred session, or sign up for both sessions.

Highlights include:

  • Free virtual event on Nov. 12 with two sessions catered to different grade levels
  • One free book to Colorado participants, while supplies last! Books will be available to pick up at the Boulder Book Store.

2019Children's Literature Festival

Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019 | Fleming Building Rm. 33,CU Boulder

The CU Boulder School of Education and Boulder Book Store invites teachers, students, families, librarians and all who love children’s books to join our free Children’s Book Festival on Nov. 9. This virtual event features a panel of CU Boulder Literacy Studies faculty and students who will lead interactive sesions.

10% Of the proceeds from this event will benefit the Shelby Wolf Literacy Classroom in the renovated CU Boulder School of Education building.

This year's Children's Book Festival will take place on Saturday, November 9th, 2019, at 8:30 AM until 11:30 AM in Rm. 33 of the Fleming Building.
