How are matches made?

Matches are based on the information provided in both mentor and mentee profiles, including career interests, goals, and areas of expertise. The PLC Connections Team of Student StaffÌýcarefully reviews each profile to individually pair students with alumni who align with their career aspirations and professional backgrounds.

How often should I meet with my match?

We recommend meeting with your match 2-3 times over the course of the semester. These meetings can be scheduled based on mutual availability and can take place virtually, over the phone, or in person. Meetings are organized by the AMP Pairs, student led. The PLC AMP team does not organize meetings for pairings but is here as a resource for any communication issues or assistance.Ìý

What should I discuss during meetings with my student match?

Your discussions can cover a range of topics, such as career exploration, industry trends, skill development, and networking strategies. Use the PLC AMP Connection Roadmap as a guide to help structure your meetings and provide meaningful support.

What if my match is unresponsive?

If you’re having difficulty reaching your student match, please send a follow-up email or message. If you still encounter communication issues, please contact Lia at lia.dino@colorado.edu, and we’ll assist in re-establishing contact or exploring alternative options.

Can I continue communicating with my student match beyond one semester?

Yes! If you and your match both wish to continue the relationship beyond the semester, you can request that at the end of each semester session. However, each new semester involves a fresh matching process (don't worry, you don't have to re-fill out the form), and you will have the option to be matched with differentÌýstudents.

What if the match isn’t working out?

If you feel that the match isn’t aligning with your expectations or that the connection isn’t working out, please reach out to Lia at lia.dino@colorado.edu. We’re here to support you and can discuss options to ensure a positive experience for both parties.

What are my responsibilities as an alumni?

As a PLC alumni, you’re expected to respond to your student match's initial and subsequent emails, offer guidance and advice, maintain professionalism in all interactions, and meet with them 2-3 times over the semester. Review the Expectations Agreement for a full understanding of your role.

Are there resources available to support me as an alumni match?

Yes! The Match Resource Kit includes the Connection Roadmap, Expectations Agreement, and our PLC Connections team (lia.dino@colorado.eduÌýand tate.mcdonald@colorado.edu) to assist you in your journey. These resources are designed to provide you with tools and guidance to facilitate meaningful interactions with your student match.

Who should I contact if I have more questions or need support?

If you have any additional questions or need support during the program, feel free to reach out to Lia (lia.dino@colorado.edu) or Tate (tate.mcdonald@colorado.edu). We’re here to help!
