In CU Boulder's first State of the Research & Innovation Enterprise webinar, Massimo Ruzzene, acting vice chancellor for research and innovation and dean of the institutes, will share compelling metrics, trends, insights and aspirations from the university’s thriving research and innovation enterprise.

CU Boulder and NIST researchers will be better able to coordinate their efforts with the recent opening of the QEI Collaboration Lab. This new 1,500 square foot space in the Engineering Center will encourage cross-campus research and experiments in the high-impact field of quantum engineering.

The Department of Energy has awarded $400 million for research into clean energy technologies and low-carbon manufacturing through 43 Energy Frontier Research Centers (EFRCs), six of which feature 13 Renewable and Sustainable Energy Institute (RASEI) members.

CU Boulder geologist Lisa Mayhew is a member of the science team for NASA’s Mars 2020 mission, which is led by JPL in southern California. In August, she and her colleagues published some of the first sets of results from the Perseverance rover’s exploration of the Red Planet.

John Melanson (ElEngrCompSci'74) just hit the 500 patent milestone, putting him among the top 100 most prolific inventors. Many of those patents are in the field of audio and electronics, particularly in analog-to-digital signal processing technologies that are instrumental in today’s digital devices.

The university obtained grants from a range of government agencies, nonprofits and industry partners. NASA, NSF, the Department of Commerce, the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Defense and the Department of Energy continue to be the largest federal funding sources.

STAR HARBOR Academy, the world's first publicly accessible spaceflight training facility, will partner with CU to engage the next generation of space innovators through a collaborative Space Medicine Program, student internship and residency opportunities, and commercial space R&D programs.

Rubén Donato of the School of Education and Shelly L. Miller of the College of Engineering and Applied Science have been recognized with 2022-23 Distinguished Research Lectureships. The Lectureship is among the most esteemed honors bestowed by the faculty upon a faculty member at CU Boulder.
