Data: Browse Available Datasets Powered by ResearchDataGov

The Rocky Mountain Research Data Center (RMRDC) provides access to microdata collected by several different federal statistical agencies. A detailed listing of available restricted data sets from all federal agencies is provided at theÌýÌýWeb PortalÌýwhich includes links to documentation and survey sponsors.Ìý

Researchers need to consult with an RDC Administrator on the availability of particular data sets before writing research proposals.

Census Bureau

To access restricted data from the U.S. Census Bureau please see theirÌý.Ìý

  • : Censuses and surveys of households and individuals. These data are not public-use files. They include complete geography (in many cases down to the block). Items such as income are not top-coded. Individual identifiers such as name, address, and social security number are not included.
    • :ÌýA household survey that produces national and state-level data on the physical and emotional health of children 0 - 17 years old in the United States.
    • : The Mortality Disparities in American Communities (MDAC) is a study developed to estimate the effects of demographic and socio-economic characteristics on differentials in U.S. mortality rates. These objectives are achieved through record linkage of the large, nationally representative, 2008 American Community Survey (ACS) with mortality outcomes derived from the National Death Index (NDI) housed at the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) and Medicare/Medicaid information obtained from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
    • : The National Longitudinal Mortality Study (NLMS) consists of a database developed for the purpose of studying the effects of demographic and socio-economic characteristics on differentials in U.S. mortality rates. The NLMS is a unique research database in that it is based on a random sample of the non-institutionalized population of the United States.
  • : Censuses and surveys of business establishments and firms. With very few exceptions, no public use files exist for these surveys.
    • (LEHD): Uses modern statistical and computing techniques to combine federal and state administrative data on employers and employees with core Census Bureau censuses and surveys while protecting the confidentiality of people and firms that provide the data.
  • : University research funding from all sources for participating universities. Includes principle investigators, post-docs, graduate students, and contracting firms for each funded research project.
  • : Within the National Science Foundation (NSF), the ÌýNational Center for Science and Engineering Statistics (NCSES) grants licenses to securely access restricted-use microdata files. Includes Early Career Doctorate Survey (ECDS), National Survey of College Graduates (NSCG), National Survey of Recent College Graduates (NSRCG), Scientists and Engineers Statistical Data System (SESTAT) Integrated File, Survey of Doctorate Recipients (SDR)/SDR Longitudinal (LSDR), Survey of Earned Doctorates (SED)/Doctorate Record File (DRF).
  • : The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission enforces federal laws prohibiting employment discrimination. Currently, EEOC has enforcement responsibility for the federal statutes. This dataset consists of employment discrimination charges filed with EEOC by individuals and records information including the statute, issue, and basis for the charge, case resolution, the geographic location of the employer, and anonymized demographic information of the charging party.
  • The Survey of Consumer Finances (SCF) is normally a triennial cross-sectional survey of U.S. families. The survey data include information on families’ balance sheets, pensions, income, and demographic characteristics. Information is also included from related surveys of pension providers and the earlier such surveys conducted by the Federal Reserve Board.
