ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder students have a central place to go when they need help with academic and student life as Ralphie's Resource Center enters its second year. The center in Norlin Library exists to help with the administrative aspects of being a student, including using the Personal Look-Up Services or PLUS system, navigating graduation requirement information and making the most of what CU-Boulder has to offer.

ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder students and administrators are taking action to prevent the inconsiderate and sometimes violent second-hand effects of friends' or roommates' alcohol abuse. Bob Maust, principal investigator for A Matter of Degree, a grant-supported program to reduce high-risk alcohol use, reports that students are increasingly standing up for themselves when faced with disruptive alcohol situations.

Internet art challenges traditional notions of the artist and artwork: Who is the artist when the medium is dynamic and participatory? What about the integrity of the artwork itself, when the audience can customize the artist's original conception and recreate it in infinite new configurations?

In the wake of the Internet's growth, and the migration to broadband connections, different segments of the telecommunications industry continue to converge. This convergence of technologies will be one of the main topics discussed at the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ School of Law forum titled "The Challenges of Convergence," to be held Sept. 4 in the law school's Lindsley Memorial Courtroom.

While weather likely has been a common topic of conversation since ancient humans first learned to articulate their thoughts millennia ago, one of the hottest topics today among scientists is space weather.

Engineering doctoral student Michael Neylon has been selected as the first recipient of the Teets Family Doctoral Fellowship, a new endowment supporting student research in microsystems and nanosystems at the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder. Neylon is a second-year graduate student in aerospace engineering sciences, working on research in microfluid mechanics with Professor Kamran Mohseni. His work focuses on developing and modeling microfans for microscale mixing in channels, particle separation and microprocessor cooling.

The University Memorial Center at the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder will celebrate the completion of a two-year expansion and renovation on Friday, Sept. 6, from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. "I believe our students and the rest of the campus community will be excited about all the new facilities and services," said Carlos Garcia, UMC director. "It's the start of a great new era at the UMC."

The ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder has taken several steps, many as part of long-term programs, to help ensure the safety and well-being of its students for the fall semester.

Nobel laureate Carl Wieman, distinguished professor of physics at the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder, will teach a large undergraduate class of non-science majors on "The Physics of Everyday Life" during the 2002-03 school year.

Harold Bruff, dean of the School of Law at the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder, has announced his resignation as dean effective in June 2003. Bruff, who will stay at CU-Boulder as a law professor, said he wants to spend more time with his family and is "eager to resume the life of teaching and writing that has been my principal career." Now in his seventh year as dean of CU-Boulder's law school, Bruff announced his resignation to the faculty on Aug. 13.
