The Religious Campus Organizations will host its second annual ice cream social at the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder Aug. 22 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the lawn of the Sibell Wolle Fine Arts Building. RCO is composed of 21 member groups involved in campus ministry at the university. Staff and students will be available to answer questions and provide information on the groups.

Their journey as refugees fleeing the brutal civil war in Sudan that claimed the lives of their families and their villages has taken them through some of the most war-torn areas of the world. Now it is bringing them to the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder.

The Stampede shuttle bus will provide convenient connections between the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder's main and east campuses and Research Park beginning Aug. 26. The natural-gas-powered shuttle will operate from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, connecting the campuses with buses arriving every 10 minutes. CU-Boulder students, faculty and staff will be able to board the Stampede without charge by showing their RTD-validated student bus pass or faculty-staff Eco Pass.

The ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Police Department will give away free pizza to students during "Hill Stops" on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 23-24, as part of an ongoing effort to enhance relations between university students and police. The giveaway starts at 11 p.m. on Friday and 8 p.m. on Saturday and will end when the pizza runs out. Officers will give away pizza and lemonade to students who stop and visit. ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ should look for CU officers on the campus side of the Hill underpass at Broadway and College Avenue. Boulder Police also will participate in the Hill Stops.

A search committee has been named to identify finalists for the position of dean of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder. Stewart Hoover, professor of journalism and mass communication, is currently serving as interim dean of the school. He assumed the post last February, following the departure of former dean Del Brinkman, who resigned citing health and family concerns.

"Words to Stir the Soul: Readings From the American West," will be presented by the CU-Boulder Center of the American West in Boulder on Tuesday, Aug. 27, and in Denver on Thursday, Aug. 29. The sixth annual event will be held at 7 p.m. on Aug. 27 in the Old Main Chapel on the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder campus, and at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 29 at the LoDo Tattered Cover Book Store at 16th Street and Wyncoop Street in Denver.

An ambitious effort to bring culture to Boulder in 1937 has grown into a perennial provider of world-class performances from artists as stylistically diverse as Dave Brubeck and the Japan Philharmonic. Both the American jazz legend and the Asian symphony have performed in the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder's Artist Series, now in its 65th season. Legendary violinist Isaac Stern performed six times in the series, and other past performers include Leonard Bernstein, Van Cliburn, Paul Robeson, Yo-Yo Ma, Branford Marsalis, Andres Segovia and Beverly Sills.

We are very pleased with the Boulder County Commissioners' decision today to approve our application for the construction of 12 tennis courts and a parking lot on the 308 acre South Campus property. The Commissioners agreed that the university's application was in conformance with the county's land use regulations and met all other applicable requirements of the law. We are committed to being good stewards of the South Campus property, a state asset that will benefit generations of students. Construction of the tennis courts will begin as soon as design work is complete.

CU-Boulder law Professor Barbara Bintliff has been named a Nicholas Rosenbaum Professor of Law by law school Dean Harold Bruff. A ceremony to honor Bintliff will be held at the Fleming Law Building on Aug. 20 at 4 p.m. Bintliff has been director of the law library since 1989. A nationally prominent law librarian, she recently completed a term as president of the American Association of Law Libraries. She is a frequent presenter at national and regional conferences and teaches a course in advanced legal research.

The ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder's A Matter of Degree program, other AMOD campuses and the American Medical Association have a suggestion for the public and media about the Princeton Review's "Top Party Schools" list: take it with a grain of salt. The AMOD group and the AMA claim the rankings, to be published next week in the Princeton Review's annual "Best Colleges" guide, are misleading and give college-bound students a skewed perception about partying on campus.
