On Thursday, 听(during the Metro Program) KGNU听will air inteview with Indra Raj.听 The interview took place on January 24th during his visit to Boulder to deliver his public talk, "The Art of the Crossfade: Music, Archives, and California" on CU campus.听Josh uses the DJ method of crossfading to explore and animate historic sheet music, vinyl LPs, and restaurant menus as tools in addressing contemporary issues of gentrification, urban redevelopment, and racial inequality, among others.
Dr. Kun is a 2016 MacArthur Fellow and the winner of a 2018 Berlin Prize and a 2006 American Book Award. His听research听focuses on the arts and politics of cultural connection, with an emphasis on popular music, sound, the cultures of听globalization, the US-Mexico border, Los Angeles, and Jewish-American musical history.听He also works as a journalist, essayist,听and curator. 听
He is the Director of听the Popular Music Project听at USC Annenberg鈥檚 Norman Lear Center and co-editor (with Ron Radano and Nina Sun Eidsheim) of the book series听Refiguring American Music听for Duke University Press. He co-curates听Crossfade Lab, a听conversation and performance series that occurs across multiple sites听in Phoenix, Arizona.听He founded the USC Annenberg听Distinguished Lecture Series on Latin American Arts & Culture.听He serves on the editorial boards of the听International Journal of Communication, Aztl谩n: A Journal of Chicano Studies, Journal of Popular Music Studies,听and听Public Culture.
