Everett Shock and members of his research group, GEOPIG, apply thermodynamic calculations to understand the driving forces behind geochemical processes, microbial metabolisms, and biosynthetic pathways. Field work and lab analyses elucidate mechanisms by which chemotrophic microbes access energy and nutrients from geochemical environments.
